The Rent Stabilization Department (RSD) has released its August 2026 Newsletter, featuring important information on rent rollbacks and rent increases, guidance on where to report maintenance and habitability concerns, and a reminder about Pasadena’s Rental Registry Public Portal.
This month’s issue highlights rent rollbacks and rent increases under Pasadena’s Rent Stabilization Charter. For covered rental units, rent increases must follow applicable requirements, and in some situations, landlords may be required to roll rent back to the lawful amount if an increase exceeds what is permitted. Community members who would like to learn more are encouraged to attend RSD’s upcoming workshop on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the RSD office or virtually via Zoom at Bit.ly/MonthlyRSDWorkshops.
The August newsletter also provides guidance on where to report maintenance and habitability concerns. RSD Housing Counselors can assist tenants and landlords with questions about Pasadena’s rent stabilization laws, including rent increases, eviction protections, petitions, and relocation assistance. However, concerns involving property maintenance, unsafe conditions, or potential building, health, or safety code violations should be reported to the City’s Code Compliance Division for investigation.
In addition, the newsletter highlights the Rental Registry Public Portal, which allows tenants, landlords, and community members to access information about registered rental properties in Pasadena. Users can verify whether a property is registered, review registration details, and, for covered units, view information such as the maximum lawful rent and other publicly available housing data. Landlords are also reminded that the upcoming Rental Registration cycle opens September 1, 2026, and are encouraged to keep their property information current.
The newsletter also includes information on upcoming Pasadena Rental Housing Board meetings and the next Chats & Snacks with a Housing Counselor event, scheduled for August 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Community Center.
