Navigating Petitions and Hearings

The Rent Stabilization Department is excited to announce the upcoming launch of our enhanced services for petitions and hearings estimated this Summer 2024. This initiative aims to provide a streamlined and efficient process for requesting rent adjustments and resolving disputes between tenants and landlords regarding rent stabilization regulations.

WHAT ARE PETITIONS AND HEARINGS?

  • Petitions: Formal requests submitted by tenants or landlords for seeking individual rent adjustments (whether upward or downward).
  • Hearings: Administrative proceedings where both parties may present evidence and arguments before a Hearing Officer who makes a final decision.

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

While the service isn't yet available, you can start preparing by:

  • Familiarizing yourself with rent stabilization regulations available on this website.
  • Gathering potential evidence: Keep documentation of any concerns, communications, repairs requested, or other relevant information.
  • Exploring legal aid and tenant advocacy options: External Resources

WHEN WILL PETITIONS AND HEARINGS BE AVAILABLE?

We are currently building and refining our systems and processes to ensure a smooth and effective launch. Petitions and hearings will be officially available starting Summer 2024, with an exact date to be announced closer to the launch of the Rental Registry, estimated for June 2024.
