Locations are selected based on public requests through the Pasadena City Service Center (search \u201cbike rack\u201d) and the location\u2019s conformance to the guidelines below. As each location is unique, each request will be evaluated by City staff on a case-by-case basis before being approved for a bike rack. Bike rack installations will be prioritized based on the likely demand of bike parking at each location. Installations will occur periodically in batches.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Pasadena City Service Center<\/strong> is a centralized service to help Pasadena residents connect with the appropriate City services and is available via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofpasadena.net\/city-service-center\/\">web<\/a>, LiveChat (bottom right of the webpage), mobile app (<a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.govoutreach.pasadenacs&amp;hl=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Android<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/pasadena-cs\/id496337415\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iOS<\/a>) and phone (626-744-7311).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=\".vc_custom_1757438572017{margin-right: 0px !important;margin-left: 0px !important;background-color: #f8f9fa !important;}\" el_class=\"mt-3 pb-4 pl-3 pr-3\"][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>General Bike Parking Guidelines on both Public and Private Property<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner gap=\"30\"][vc_column_inner width=\"2\/3\"][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The footprint of a typical bicycle is approximately 6\u2019 long by 2\u2019 wide.<\/li>\n<li>All racks should be placed in a way to accommodate at least a 6\u2019 long bicycle (3\u2019 of clearance on both sides of the center of the rack).<\/li>\n<li>Pedestrian travel paths of at least 5\u2019 wide must be maintained in order to provide accessibility for all users.<\/li>\n<li>All racks should be placed in a manner that maintains a clear line of travel for all pedestrian path users.<\/li>\n<li>All racks should be placed at least 3\u2019 away from other streetscape amenities such as benches and trash cans.<\/li>\n<li>Racks cannot be placed in conflict with utility access points, boxes, poles, storm drains, trees, or any other existing physical streetscape infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>All racks should be placed in high-trafficked areas near building frontages or other sources of \u201ceyes on the street\u201d for security and peace of mind.<\/li>\n<li>Sidewalk racks should be placed at least 2\u2019 away from the curb and ideally 3\u2019 away from the curb when adjacent to on-street parking.<\/li>\n<li>Sidewalk racks shall not be placed within a bus or handicap parking zone in order to maintain passenger loading and unloading.<\/li>\n<li>Sidewalk racks should be oriented perpendicular to curb faces in order to minimize car loading conflicts where feasible but only if sufficient sidewalk width is available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=\"1\/3\"][vc_single_image image=\"1508\" img_size=\"large\" alignment=\"center\" style=\"vc_box_rounded\"][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=\"1\/2\"][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Preferred Bike Rack Type<\/h2>\n<p>While the City does not have a standardized bike rack model, the City currently installs and recommends flange mounted, 34\u201d-36\u201d tall, power-coated inverted U-racks made of square steel tubing. This type of rack provides two points of contact and can be used by most if not all bicycle shapes and sizes. Square tubing is preferred over round tubing as round tubing is more susceptible to commercial pipe cutting tools. The City currently uses and recommends tamper proof bolts for installation.
