Branch Overview

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

When Pasadena’s Central Library closed for required seismic retrofitting, the City needed alternative space for library services. In collaboration with the Pasadena Unified School District, a temporary library branch focused on children’s and teens' services was established at the vacant Jefferson School building. The makeshift youth library is designed to operate for five years. Serving as the library system’s hub for youth services, public spaces at the Jefferson Branch Library include an early learning hub, play space, kids room, teen room, children’s art gallery, Innovation Lab, and programming areas.

The school campus also houses Collaborate PASadena, The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library bookstore, Pasadena’s Fire Training Academy, Police Athletic League (PAL) youth program, a pickleball court maintained by Parks, Recreation, & Community Services, and Pasadena City College’s EMT training program.

*We are committed to reopening the doors of the Pasadena Central Library as a safe, historic, and functional space for all. The earthquake repairs ensure the library remains a cornerstone in the community. Follow our progress. Programming has been reduced during closure.
