Pasadena Police Department Announces Delay in Release of Officer-Involved Shooting Video

Pasadena, CA – The Pasadena Police Department is notifying the public that the anticipated release of video related to the March 2, 2026, officer-involved shooting (Pasadena Case PA2026-17113) will be delayed. In accordance with California law, the department is providing notice that it is extending the timeframe for the public release of the critical incident video. The officer involved in the incident sustained life-threatening injuries and required extended hospitalization. Since being discharged, the officer continues to recover and receive medical treatment and has not yet been interviewed as part of the investigation. As set forth below, until this interview takes place, the investigation is still open, and release would be premature.

Under California Assembly Bill 748 (AB 748) and Senate Bill 1421 (SB 1421), certain law enforcement records including critical incident video are subject to public disclosure. AB 748, codified in Government Code section 7923.625, requires the release of audio and video recordings of critical incidents, including officer-involved shootings, to promote transparency and accountability.

The statute also authorizes a law enforcement agency to temporarily extend the standard 45-day release period if disclosure within that timeframe would substantially interfere with an active criminal investigation.

Based on the status of the investigation, the department is exercising its statutory authority to extend the release timeframe. Pursuant to Government Code section 7923.625(a)(2), the video recording will be temporarily withheld until the investigation reaches a point where public release will no longer jeopardize its integrity.

"The Pasadena Police Department remains committed to transparency and understands the community's interest in reviewing the available footage. However, the release of the video must be carefully coordinated with the ongoing investigation and reviewed in accordance with legal and procedural requirements," said Chief Harris.

The incident remains under active review by the appropriate investigative authorities. During this process, investigators continue to evaluate all available evidence, including video footage, witness statements, and forensic findings.

The Pasadena Police Department will provide an update regarding the release of the video once it is appropriate to do so. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as the investigative process continues.
